LONGLEAT HOUSE AND SAFARI PARK
A wonderful day out for all the family. Visit the
Marquess of Bath’s Elizabethan House, maze, butterfly garden, adventure
playground and pets’ corner. See the hippos, gorillas and seals on the
lake, take a train or boat ride, and then drive around the safari park,
spotting giraffes, lions, tigers, rhino, zebras, camels and wolves.
(Beware of the monkeys!)
BOWOOD
Another nearby historic house, owned by the
Marquess of Landsdowne, with extensive park-like grounds, an adventure
playground and a soft play area. Once again, something for all the family.
CORSHAM , HOLT, GREAT CHALFIELD, WESTWOOD
All four have National Trust properties, and are
within a few miles. A little further are DYRHAM PARK, and the privately
owned IFORD and SHELDON MANORS and FARLEIGH HUNGERFORD Castle.
BRISTOL ZOO
A popular family choice, Bristol Zoo has won a
prestigious award for conservation from the Federation of Zoos, and is the
Good Britain Guide’s 2004 “Zoo of the Year”. 300 different species
live here.
